The purpose of government is to protect the liberties of the people. The migration of people and their employment does not interfere with anyone’s liberty (anymore than the migration and employment of Americans).

Immigration restrictionists abandon one of the most basic of our founding ideals: Presumption of Liberty. We should always assume it is in our interest to support the rights, freedoms and flourishing of others unless there is a clear harm we can point to that is caused directly by their activity. Crossing a border doesn't come close to being a fundamental cause of any harm.

Everything the restrictionists point to is a *potential harm* and often with a secondary or tertiary cause. If the burden of proof for limiting a basic freedom is this low, we can ban almost any activity on the grounds that someone, somewhere will abuse that freedom and cause someone harm. This is fundamentally at odds with any liberty-based philosophy.
