Another post 9/11 cost was (and continues to be) the loss of liberty at the hands of both political parties. I hope you'll check out the piece I wrote on the 25th Anniversary.
Alex, you make this same mistake over and over with counter-terrorism and I always call you out for it. You think that all the money spent since 9/11 didn’t actually prevent terrorist attacks. It clearly did. And you want to just ignore this in order to advance your non-interventionist libertarian ideology.
I answer you in the same way every time: The CT would have had to prevent ~400,000 deaths in attacks to justify the cost. Do you think the post-911 security state prevent that many people from being murdered in terrorist attacks?

Absolutely. 100%.
How many terrorist attacks were prevented that you don’t know about? And how many could have died in them?
I have made this obvious point to you many times.
A successful terrorist attack could have killed way more than 400,000 lives.
Alex, terrorism is not your area of expertise. It’s mine. Listen to me and stop acting like you know more than me about this.
I don’t lecture you about immigration, so why the hell do you think you can lecture me about terrorism?
