I do not agree with the idea that you can compare undocumented to the US population at large. The average in Chicago is very high, until you eliminate a small area of the city. Then the homicide rate collapses. A small town in Iowa will have close to zero homicides and if you double the population with immigrants from El Salvador, hte homicide rate will rise. So, liars figure and figures lie as Mark Twain says.
One group of native born Americans, making up around 1 in 8 of the population, commit more than 50% of all homicides. This completely distorts the US crime figures. I’m sure Mr Nowrasteh is aware of this anomaly. That’s why it would be better to compare the homicide rate of illegal immigrants with the homicide rate of white Americans.
What white middle class people are doing is noting that having a bunch of illegals flood in increases the number of “bad neighborhoods”. Now they not only have to avoid the black areas but also the MS-13 areas.
Crime is a bit lower in first generation Lat Am immigrants compared to Hispanic norms due to a number of factors (including risk of deportation). Though it tends to rise in the second generation. Beyond the risk of deportation going away, low iq immigrants tend to assimilate to American ghetto norms.
If the immigrants in question can’t be deported and have already been assimilated to the American welfare state, such as Puerto Ricans, they tend to have higher crime in the first generation.
