I loved this debate. Free migration is the fairest way to describe libertarian views on immigration but opening the borders are a great start

I’m somewhat shocked (but only somewhat) that this is debated.

This is a great summation of the arguments. One counterpoint I might make though in the context of a welfare state: With free immigration, older people who no longer work or pay taxes could immigrate too. The same individual also draw significantly more from the healthcare and pension systems.

Might it make sense, as I have argued, to charge an immigration "tariff" or fee that scales with age? That is, young people are free to immigrate because have their productive and taxpaying lives ahead of them, but older immigrants have to pay to ensure that such welfare systems don't become overwhelmed?

Sure, this is not purely a libertartian stance, but it could be more workable as a practical matter.
